About me and my work
Hello I’m Kai.
I was born 1983 in a small town called Nordhorn. Moved to Chemnitz in 2003 to study Computer Science at the Technical University of Chemnitz.
After finishing my studies I stayed in Chemnitz, met my wife and now still live here with my family.
Directly after my studies I started working for the University computation center for a couple of months. I was mainly involved in packaging software (Windows and Linux) and the administration of a wiki solution.
From 2012 to 2015 I worked for Chemmedia where I automated the creation and lifecycle process of VMware based virtual machines through Puppet. Since we also had some on-premise Hardware, I also learned my fair share of dealing with Local Area Network, Storage Area Network and VMWare technologies.
In 2016 I started working for Staffbase as a Backend Engineer. After a couple of weeks we realized that my knowledge in Linux System administration is much more needed at Staffbase than my mediocre Java programming skills. So I took care of our servers from that point on.
Over the last years, besides other things, I worked on migrating all our workload over to a Kubernetes based infrastructure and helped introduce an incident management system that could keep up with the growth of Staffbase.
